Real Madrid has really opened their wallet this summer. They reportedly paid roughly 45 million for Franco Mastantuono, made Dean Huijsen their most costly center-back acquisition ever, and negotiated a comparable price for Alvaro Carreras.
It’s obvious that Madrid wants to spend a lot of money. However, they need to maintain a flow of liquid capital to support these signings. And it’s possible that Los Blancos just got a surprise boost of $15 million.
According to Marca, former Real Madrid star Miguel Gutierrez, who joined Girona from Real Madrid in 2022, is close to joining Italian league champions Napoli on a permanent transfer.
There are 30 million euros on the table, and Los Blancos will earn half of it thanks to the 50% sell-on clause included in the sale agreement with Girona.

According to the article, Real Madrid had a buy-back clause that allowed them to acquire the player for a mere 8 million euros if they so desired.
And there’s no denying that Miguel is an excellent player. He’s inventive up front and plays decent defense. He would have added great detail to the team and been a vital player. I would have preferred him over Ferland Mendy, to be honest.
Madrid’s preference to bring back Fran Garcia over him was purely coincidental, and the club also didn’t trust him enough over Ferland Mendy.
Miguel, on the other hand, was a regular at Girona this season, despite the club’s poor performance, finishing 16th in the table. Nonetheless, he was a vital player, and his move to Napoli is well-deserved.
It is worth noting that this move effectively ends Los Blancos’ prospects of re-signing the left-back. He is transferring to a new league where he is expected to do well.
